ORCHESTRAS AND CHOIRS

If you are interested in joining an orchestra, choir, brass band, Jazz ensemble or even musical theatre group, check out what's on offer through our National Youth Music Organisations - we call them NYMOs for short.

Who and what are the National Youth Music Organisations?
The NYMOs cover all kinds of musical genres from Western classical to South Asian classical, and contemporary Jazz to musical theatre. They bring together young people from across England and beyond, for advanced training and performance opportunities. Members get to go on residential courses, weekend workshops and perform concerts.

How do I get involved?
Find the NYMO that suits your musical talent and vist their website - you'll find links from their pages on this site. There may be a minimum Grade to pass if you are a musician and you may also need to audition for your place. You will also be able to find out information about funding bursaries that are available to you at their websites.

The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain
The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and the National Children's Brass Band of Great Britain offer the finest young brass players in the country between the ages of 8 and 18 the best possible musical experience.


The National Youth Choirs of Great Britain
The National Youth Choirs of Great Britain offers the highest performance and training standards for young people and choral music.


National Youth Jazz Collective
The National Youth Jazz Collective works with young Jazz musicians through regional projects and an annual national summer school.


The National South Asian Youth Orchestra
SAMYO is the UK's National South Asian Youth Orchestra, the first of its kind in the world! The orchestra combines musicians and compositions from the North and South Indian classical traditions, and the most talented young performers of the country. 


National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain (NCO)
NCO gives musically-talented children aged 7-13 the training/opportunity they need to play in full, age-banded symphony orchestras. There are nine national/regional ensembles and it’s HUGE fun!


Youth Music Theatre UK
Youth Music Theatre: UK runs residential music theatre projects for young people across the country. In 2008, YMT: UK premieres nine new musicals and seven Studio workshops, working with over 1200 young people.
