MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE 2008 - NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED!
Check out who's up for the highly coveted award this year
This year’s Mercury nominations have been announced and the 2008 nominees for this coveted prize include Radiohead's ‘In Rainbows’ and Estelle's ‘Shine’.
The Arctics’ Alex Turner has scored his third nomination in a row for ‘The Age of the Understatement’, the debut album from his side-project The Last Shadow Puppets with Rascals frontman Miles Kane. Arctic Monkeys won the prize in 2006 for their debut ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not’ and were nominated the year after for ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’.
Previous winners of the Mercury Prize include PJ Harvey, Dizzee Rascal and last year, new-rave pioneers the Klaxons took gong for their debut album ‘Myths of the Near Future’.
The prize was founded in the early 90s as an alternative to the commercialism of the Brit awards.
