The deadline for applications the the 2010 National Youth Orchestra is Wednesday 1st July.
Described as ‘magnificent’ by The Times and ‘a credit to Britain’ by The Guardian, the National Youth Orchestra brings 165 talented young musicians together from every corner of Britain.
You need to be Grade 8 standard, but you do not need to have taken any exams. The NYO also welcomes young composers to take part, writing music in collaboration with orchestral players.
If invited to join, you'll be in for a year of fantastic musical adventures. 2010 highlights include Shostakovich Symphony No.5 with new Principal Conductor Vasily Petrenko, Bernstein’s MASS with Marin Alsop, and a return to the BBC Proms. In April 2010, the NYO has been invited by Southbank Centre to be the British orchestra in the international ‘Varèse 360’ festival. Sharing the stage with the London Sinfonietta, the NYO will perform Edgard Varèse’s epic orchestral works alongside a groundbreaking video installation by Gary Hill, following in the footsteps of professional orchestras like the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
