MONKEYS BAG THE MERCURY
Alex Turner and the rest of the Arctics scoop the top music award
It’s official - Arctic Monkeys have scooped the 2006 Mercury Music Prize for 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' – which is officially the fastest selling debut Rock album in UK chart history. In January this year on the first day of its release alone it shifted 120,000 copies!
The Arctics beat stiff competition at the famous Awards from albums by Editors, Guillemots, Muse and Sway and walked away with a swanky £20,000 cheque. It’s not much of a surprise though as the Arctics have been the Bookies' favourites all along!
