BSc (Hons) Media Studies with Music Technology
This course combines Media Studies with Music Technology. The music part of the course concentrates on software-based recording, sequencing and sampling in a studio environment, whilst the Media Studies half aims to provide students with “the critical, analytical and problem-solving skills that are required in many of today's commercial environments.”
Duration: 3 Years
Entry: Typically 180 points coming from 2 GCE A levels, 2 6-unit VCE A levels or 1 VCE (Double Award). English, mathematics and a science to at least GCSE grade C level also required.

BA (Hons) Popular Music Production
Want to develop your creative and production skills whilst learning about music technology? This is for you. The course will encourage you to view the recording studio and computers as instruments for music production, integrated with traditional musical skills. Basic music theory is also included. They also have a BSc (Hons) version of the course.
Duration: 4 years sandwich or 3 years full-time
Entry: 260-300 points including at least 200 from six/12 unit awards plus Mathematics GCSE or AS level, OR MMM-DDM in a National Diploma in a relevant subject plus Mathematics GCSE.

BSc (Hons) Music Technology Software Development
This course is “designed to develop knowledge and skills in writing software to manipulate and produce music and audio.” Computing, music technology and music are covered, as are the principles of digital audio, audio processing, loudspeakers, microphones, acoustics and psychoacoustics, basic composition, music theory, keyboard and aural skills.
Duration: 4 years sandwich or 3 years full-time
Entry: 260-300 points including at least 200 from six/12 unit awards plus Mathematics GCSE or AS level, OR MMM-DDM in a National Diploma in a relevant subject plus Mathematics GCSE.

Music BMus (Hons)
Musicology, theory and analysis, listening, study skills and two core areas chosen from composition, electroacoustic music and performance are covered in the first year, whilst the second and third years give students the opportunity to specialise as a composer, performer, or musicologist, or to maintain a broad range of subjects. The BMus(Hons) offers a balance between traditional academic study and the practical work offered by conservatoires.
Duration: 3 years full-time
Entry: A level Music plus six further units of study plus Grade 8 standard of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music on chosen instrument.

Assorted Music Training Courses
Cloth Cat runs a number of free music courses in partnership with the WEA. They offer training in electronic music, especially software and producing, as well as other music-related training. Course include Live Sound Engineering, Acid Pro, DJing, and one in exploring your voice.

Entry: All they ask is that you have a commitment to see the course through and to produce your own music.

BA (Hons) Jazz Studies
A very different alternative to conventional music degrees. It has an international reputation and former students include Alan Barnes, Matthew Bourne, Chris ‘Snake’ Davies, Dave Newton and Nikki Iles. Performance, Composition, and Historical, Critical and Analytical Studies form the core areas of study.
Duration: 3 Years full-time
Entry: 2 A Levels or BTEC Diploma, audition and written examination.

BA (Hons) Popular Music Studies
This course “combines current industry techniques and practices with rigorous academic study.” Either Performance or Composition is taken as students’ principal area of study. Music History, Music Business and Music Technology is also studied. This is a specialised programme of study in popular music.
Duration: 3 Years full-time
Entry: Required UCAS tariff score is normally 240 points, to include either 2 A-Levels, including 80 points in A-Level Music, or a BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in a relevant subject, and 3 different GCSE subjects at Grade C including English Language. Plus audition.

Foundation Degree in Music Production for Film and Television
This is a vocational programme of study. Students learn not only the technical and creative skills needed in the production of music for moving image, but the business skills too. The course has been developed in partnership with a range of leading industry practitioners.
Duration: 2 years full-time/4 years part-time
Entry: UCAS tariff score is normally 240 tariff points, to include either 2 A Levels, or a BTEC National Certificate or Diploma, plus GCSE Grade C or above in 3 other subjects including English and Mathematics.

MA in String Quartet Performance
This course is designed for existing string quartets - typically formed by students while at a university, college or conservatoire - whose members “wish to develop their skills, while at the same time exploring the quartet repertoire in terms of performing style and historical context.” Students receive expert tuition as they explore a range of repertoire from the 18th century to the present day.

BA in Traditional Music’s with Folklore
A specialised course covering Performance, Music of the World, Cultural interpretations of folklore, Music in culture and society and more. Students deliver a recital, dissertation or composition in their last year.

Entry: A good ABRSM Grade VIII result on their principal instrument and three good A2 passes or equivalent. Applications from mature students are welcomed. .

Performance: Music BA (Hons)
Students receive regular instrumental or vocal lessons and engage in innovative collaborative projects with students from other subjects such as Dance, Theatre, Film & Television, and Art & Design. The course covers a “stimulating mixture of theory and practice” and a wide range of music styles are covered.

Entry: 160 points (including a minimum of two A2 Levels or a 12 unit AVCE or a combination) or 160 points from BTEC National Diploma / Certificate

Music Practice Edexcel National Diploma
Core units include History of Popular Music, Keyboard Skills, Listening Skills, Music in Context, and Performing Arts Professional Practice. Students also undertake an in-depth practical investigation into a selected aspect of their art form, as well as a Production Project.
Duration: 2 years
Entry: 5 or more GCSEs at grade C or above, including English or an equivalent qualification such BTEC First Diploma plus (from 1999) Grade 2 Theory (Associated Board).

Music Technology Edexcel National Diploma
This course covers The Music Industry, Listening Skills, Midi Sequencing and Software, Sound Recording, Studio Production Process and Studio Production. There are also a number of specialist units to choose from. There is a great emphasis placed upon on tutorials and key skills.
Duration: 2 years
Entry: 5 or more GCSEs, including Maths and English Language at grade C or above, or an equivalent qualification such as the EDEXCEL First Diploma, plus an appropriate level of Music theory (Associated Board).
